ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY PARTNERS WITH HOUSTON HABITAT IN A 2-HOUSE BUILD PROJECT
As part of the international program theme, “Launching New Dimensions of Service,” Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated sponsored “29 Moments of Service” worldwide, and selected Houston Habitat for Humanity as one of their service projects in Houston.
Houston Habitat Welcomes Mr. Washington to Angel Lane
It doesn’t seem that long ago when thousands of New Orleans residents found themselves west-bound due to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. It was then that media mogul Oprah Winfrey partnered with Houston Habitat for Humanity to create a community for those relocated from New Orleans, affectionately known as Angel Lane. Fast forward ten years, and some residents have been able to return to their beloved New Orleans, opening up an opportunity for others. One of those is Mr. Edward Washington.

A recent conversation with Asif Dakri, Vice Chairman and CEO at Wallis State Bank and Leela Krishnamurthy, Family Service Chairman for the Houston Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors, resulted in a 5 year commitment to the communities Wallis Bank serves.
On Saturday, May 3rd, Harrel Park will be bustling with activity as the 2014 Houston Habitat for Humanity Women Build gets underway. This build is a special initiative of Houston Habitat, and will lead up to Mothers Day as women across Houston show their support for working moms. With a host of community minded women leading the way, their outfits of hardhats and hammers will show they mean business.
